Is it possible to live in a room without a window? It turns out, yes. There are many opportunities to deal with this architectural failure, and we decided to present you with ten such solutions at once.
We are so accustomed to the fact that the interior should have a window that its absence sometimes causes slight internal discomfort. But it happens, and, I must say, quite often. Not all walls border the street; many rooms are below ground level or in interior labyrinths.
Bathroom, dressing room, gym, workshop in the basement or office on the ground floor – everywhere you want to feel “connected to the world” and glimpse somewhere else. How to be? We have ten ways to decorate rooms without windows, which we will talk about right now.
1. White Color
The more white the room is, the better: this will make it look lighter. Even from school physics lessons, we learned that white reflects the rays of the entire spectrum and spreads them around the room. White (or very, very light) should be done not only on the walls but also on the ceiling. And colored accessories will help to dispel the boring atmosphere.
2. Art
Pictures in any genre and a good frame are really capable of transforming a room visually and aesthetically. But the choice of the image must be approached as responsibly as possible. It should be borne in mind that you will be looking at the canvas constantly, so your gaze should rest. What you like impulsively can become annoying over time.
3. Pictures on the Walls
This wall design is a classic solution for the interior. There are two options here: either hang your photos (or close relatives and friends) or use highly artistic photographs of various models, athletes, artists, and species of nature or animals. In the latter case, the perceptual effect will be comparable to painting.
4. Television
The simplest interior solution in our list, one might even say “folk.” But there is a big disadvantage here. Indoor TV is the key to the success of TV advertising customers who are not interested in your home comfort and your good mood. Such a solution can be applied to a cafe or a medical center, where we constantly see “plasmas” with muted sound and flickering frames from music or fashion channels.
5. Mirrors
Another well-known “popular” solution. Mirrors deflect streams of artificial light and add a sense of depth to the room. However, it is important to keep in mind that not everyone likes to look in mirrors very often.
6. Plants
Indoor plants, besides beauty and color, give the interior something else. They emit oxygen and purify the air, and in this atmosphere, it is easier to breathe and more pleasant. And they also inspire creative feats and attract the eye, even if there is no window. It is only necessary to choose such plants that do not need sunlight.
7. Virtual Window
According to psychologists, even a window opening painted on the wall has a very beneficial effect on a person. If you are not deprived of artistic ability, you can draw a window yourself and admire the illusion.
Recently, laboratory specialists from a Russian window company created a virtual window. It will be wherever you want it. Moreover, you can choose the view from the window to suit your mood.
A virtual window is a panel that mimics the casement of a window. Window views are 4K quality video (that is, comparable to real-world perception). The constantly growing collection of videos contains beautiful views of nature and cities. Thus, virtual reality outperforms the “windowless” reality in all respects.
8. Pleasant Light
In the United States, not so long ago, technology was presented that simulates large windows or openings on the roof, onto which the sky, clouds, tree leaves, and much more are projected. The idea of an illusory glass roof is slowly developing to window solutions on the walls; however, while these solutions are too complex, purely individual, and highly dependent on the technical data of the premises.
9. Hidden Backlight
This is a relatively fresh interior solution. LED strips are used everywhere: behind furniture, in niches, on walls, and under the ceiling, creating complete lighting scenarios. And some shades of LEDs in home decor can create an optical sensation of natural radiation.
10. Light Patterns
A light pattern is a closed device (specially equipped channel) for the directional transmission of natural light. I am glad that a solution has been found to transport it indoors. However, the technical side of the issue is so complex and individual that the implementation of an optical fiber becomes a complicated task. And don’t forget that daylight is primarily about weather and climate. That is, if it did not work out in heaven today, then the light guide will only deliver you the light of shades of gray clouds.
