A compact bathroom requires a carefully thought-out layout and decoration, where even a bathtub cannot fit. It is the only way you can create a room that, despite its size, will become aesthetic and comfortable for use. Here’s a selection of practical tips for setting up a small bathroom without a bathtub.
1. Ventilation and Underfloor Heating
A bathroom, especially a small one, needs good ventilation: moisture will linger in the room if the air stops circulating. It is fraught with mold formation on the walls and in the bathroom corners, an unpleasant odor, and ugly dark spots of fungus.
We can warm the floor by designing the bathroom to stabilize the microclimate: it will not allow dampness to form. Also, warm tiles are more pleasant to the touch and less traumatic. In addition to floor heating, proper ventilation will help to cope with humidity: built-in and forced in the form of an exhaust system.
2. Glass Use
How to use the space of a tiny bathroom ergonomically? Take a closer look at the material from which the shower stall is made: free-standing plastic models, similar to capsules, take up much more space than laconic glass ones. They look not only cumbersome but also less modern. A glass shower compartment has an important advantage over a purchased cabin: We can configure it by our choice.
Instead of a splash-proof shower curtain, we recommend installing a glass partition. It does not hide the space and looks very presentable. Also, glass can reflect light, thereby making the room airier.
3. Light Finish
There is a whole arsenal of tricks and techniques that professional designers often use to expand the space visually. Do not neglect them either: use white, blue, or beige tiles to decorate a small bathroom.
Remember that solid colors look more expensive and advantageous than tiles with contrasting patterns or old-fashioned stone-like textures. If you want a beautiful bathroom – give preference to light marble-like tiles with high-quality printing.
Also, pay attention to the ratio of tiles to paint (or waterproof decorative plaster). Combine these materials with tiles if the tiles are small: this way, the space will not be “broken” by numerous seams. Another option is to choose large-format tiles. Before finishing, be sure to create a visualization so that the result matches the expectations.
4. Corner Shower
Choose compact designs to maximize bathroom space savings. We can fix elements of the corner cabin on two walls, thus using the space efficiently. The length of the sides starts at 80 cm, but experts believe that a width of 90 cm is the most optimal for a small bathroom.
We can decorate corner shower models with additional equipment (hydromassage or music unit). But remember that the design world strives for minimalism, and besides, maintenance and repair of such a cabin will come out much more expensive.
5. Lighting
It is a mistake to think that we can install one lamp in a small bathroom and that will be enough. A single chandelier will not allow you to optically expand the space and spend time in the bathroom with convenience.
It is advisable to equip the washing area with separate lighting and conduct the light over the shower area. If you use a curtain, it becomes an obstacle to light during hygiene procedures.
Please pay attention to the LED strip in the first photo: this solution gives a small space depth, making it profitable to complicate.
6. Mirror
If your goal is to make the room optically more spacious, you need to choose a mirror responsibly. It is a powerful tool for transforming space. Having bought a small mirror, you will lose all its advantages: it will not visually enlarge the room and reflect enough light.
On the contrary, a large mirror sheet without a frame will “dissolve” the walls and expand the space. If possible, purchase a custom-made mirror, having calculated its dimensions.
7. Smart Storage
To avoid visual “crushing” and “weighting” of the space, if possible, exclude open shelves. Over time, various tubes, bottles, and jars accumulate on them: their multi-colored labels create absolute chaos in a small area.
Choose closed vanities and wall cabinets if you know you are using a lot of cleaning products. You can also store hygiene items and towels outside the bathroom and take only the essentials with you.
The best option is to install custom-made furniture. The craftsmen will calculate its dimensions to a centimeter, thanks to which the finished structures will look solid and stylish. An excellent option is hanging pedestals as if hovering above the floor and taking up a minimum of space.
If you approach the arrangement of a bathroom without a bath wisely, the interior will delight you not only with beauty but also with convenience.
